We can?t reinvent the wheel, but we have to keep on modernising it!

MST MK IV

Dr. A.A. Bolliger was a leading phlebologist in Zürich. He founded the Swiss Society of Phlebology (SGP) and remained President thereof until his death. His thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, and as well as obtaining a degree in medicine, he also graduated in physics. It is therefore not surprising that he found the measuring devices of his time for testing pressures given by medical compression stockings to be unsatisfactory.

He discussed this problem together with his patient, Prof. F.E. Borgnis, who was department head of the Institute for High Frequency Technology at the ETH in Zürich, and together they developed the first MST, which was presented in 1977 in Montreux.

MST Professional

SALZMANN AG ST. GALLEN took over production and distribution. The original MST underwent further development in the MST MK II, MST MK III and MST MK IV models. The basic principles of the inventor were always maintained, however:

The flat measuring probe does not bulge
Therefore the material is not overstretched before measurement, and no faulty measurement is possible, as is the case with a bulky probe (LaPlace?s physical law refers)
The results can be read off directly, and do not need to be converted using tables and formulae
Pressure graduation can be monitored at the same time
The MST is mobile and can be used anywhere

Until now, though, the MST?s have had one drawback for testing in laboratory conditions, namely that a separate wooden leg has to be made for each size to be tested.

For this reason we have developed the MST Professional, which can, thanks to its variable leg form, cover 95% of known sizes, both for standard items and custom made stockings. A further advantage is that not only static, but also dynamic measurements can be made.
